We left Canada on July 25 and landed in Australia two days later on our 15th wedding anniversary – how cool is that?! A delay in LA meant we missed our connecting flight in Brisbane, but the flights went smoothly and we both managed enough sleep that we weren’t completely exhausted.
The whole airport experience in Brisbane was bizarre. Given that we had flown into the country on a one way ticket, we were both expecting to be asked a whole lot of questions by immigration. Nothing! We actually didn’t speak to single person. Before we knew it, we were standing on the sidewalk in the sunshine, both feeling a little like we might be caught out at any second!
After killing a few hours in the Brisbane airport, we finally got our connecting flight to Rockhampton. After stopping at the shops for a few necessities (a coffee maker, mini fridge, beer, and wine), we headed down the highway to our new home in Yeppoon and arrived to these wonderful gifts on our front porch.
Shortly afterwards, one of my new work colleagues, Leisa, stopped by with her little girl to bring us heaps of stuff she and some of the other girls at work had put together for us to help get us through until our stuff arrived from Canada. One of my other new colleagues had even taken the time to prepare us a few meals for our first few nights here. So thanks to these incredible ladies, we celebrated our anniversary with a homemade meal in our new home.
Wow! So happy you have such great coworkers!
